Description

Air Fryer Crispy Onions are a quick and healthier version of the classic deep-fried onions, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They’re great as a snack, topping for burgers, or as a side dish.


Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced into rings
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Soak the sliced onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to help the coating adhere better.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Take each onion ring from the buttermilk and dredge it in the flour mixture, then dip it into the panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to ensure they stick.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with olive oil.
  6. Place the coated onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure they are not overlapping.
  7. Air fry for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  8. Remove from the air fryer and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy as a snack, side dish, or topping for your favorite meals.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier flavor, add cayenne pepper to the flour mixture.
  • For an even crispier texture, you can spray a little more cooking spray on the onions halfway through the cooking process.
  • These onions are best served immediately for maximum crispiness, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
