Description

These Air Fryer Doughnuts are soft, fluffy, and golden without the need for deep frying. Made from a simple yeast dough, they’re air-fried to perfection and finished with a buttery cinnamon sugar coating or a classic glaze—perfect for a lighter indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (more if needed)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
  • 1/2 cup sugar + 1 teaspoon cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add egg, melted butter, and salt. Mix until combined, then gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5–6 minutes until smooth and elastic, or use a mixer with a dough hook.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out doughnuts using a doughnut cutter or two round cutters.
  6. Place cut doughnuts on parchment paper, cover lightly, and let rise for another 20–30 minutes.
  7. Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Spray basket with oil or line with parchment with holes.
  8. Air fry doughnuts in batches for 4–5 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown.
  9. While warm, brush with melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar.

Notes

  • For glazed doughnuts, dip in a simple glaze made with powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla instead of cinnamon sugar.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer—work in batches for even cooking.
  • Let dough rise in a warm, draft-free area to ensure fluffiness.
