Description

This Best Vanilla Cake is soft, moist, and full of rich vanilla flavor. It’s perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or whenever you’re craving a classic dessert.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk, room temperature
  • Optional: Vanilla buttercream or frosting of choice

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Add the dry ingredients in three parts, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost with your favorite vanilla buttercream or icing before serving.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for the best texture and rise.
  • Don’t overmix the batter to avoid a dense cake.
  • This cake can be made ahead and frozen (unfrosted) for up to 2 months.
