This Best Vanilla Cake is soft, moist, and full of rich vanilla flavor. It’s perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or whenever you’re craving a classic dessert.

- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk, room temperature
- Optional: Vanilla buttercream or frosting of choice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3–5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Add the dry ingredients in three parts, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Frost with your favorite vanilla buttercream or icing before serving.
Notes
- Use room temperature ingredients for the best texture and rise.
- Don’t overmix the batter to avoid a dense cake.
- This cake can be made ahead and frozen (unfrosted) for up to 2 months.
- Pairs beautifully with fruit fillings or chocolate frosting as well.
