Description

Cheesy Cabbage Beef Casserole is a hearty and comforting dish layered with tender cabbage, seasoned ground beef, tomato sauce, and melted cheese. It’s an easy, family-friendly meal that’s perfect for weeknight dinners.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small head of green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté until softened.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5–7 minutes.
  5. In a separate large pot, bring water to a boil and cook chopped cabbage for 5 minutes, until slightly tender. Drain well.
  6. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half the cabbage, then half the beef mixture, and sprinkle with half the cheese. Repeat layers.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes if you like some heat.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for future meals.
