Description

Chocolate Peppermint Donuts are rich, moist baked donuts infused with cocoa and topped with a cool peppermint glaze and crushed candy canes. A festive and indulgent holiday treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract
  • Crushed candy canes (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together sugar, buttermilk, egg, oil, vanilla, and peppermint extract until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients; mix until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips if using.
  5. Fill each donut cavity 3/4 full and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let donuts cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. To make glaze: whisk powdered sugar, milk, and peppermint extract until smooth.
  8. Dip cooled donuts in glaze and sprinkle with crushed candy canes. Let set before serving.

Notes

  • Use dark chocolate cocoa for a richer flavor.
  • Adjust peppermint extract to taste—too much can be overpowering.
  • Donuts can be made a day ahead and stored in an airtight container.
  • For a dairy-free version, use almond milk and dairy-free chocolate.
