Description
Copycat Yoshinoya Beef Bowls are a homemade version of the popular Japanese fast food dish. Thin slices of beef are simmered in a sweet and savory sauce, then served over steamed rice for a comforting and satisfying meal.

- 1 lb thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin preferred)
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup mirin
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon sake (optional)
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- Cooked white rice, for serving
- Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Pickled ginger (beni shoga), optional for garnish
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine beef broth, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, sake (if using), ginger, and garlic. Stir to mix and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Add sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the sliced beef and simmer for 8–10 minutes, or until the beef is cooked through and tender.
- Reduce heat and allow the sauce to slightly thicken for 2–3 more minutes.
- Spoon the beef and onion mixture over bowls of steamed white rice.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and pickled ginger if desired.

Notes
- For an authentic taste, use very thinly sliced beef—shabu shabu style.
- You can add a few drops of sesame oil for extra depth of flavor.
- This dish can be made ahead and reheated for meal prep.
