Description

Crawfish Bread is a savory, cheesy, and indulgent dish made with French bread stuffed with a creamy crawfish filling, perfect for serving at parties, Mardi Gras celebrations, or as a bold appetizer. It’s a Louisiana favorite that combines Cajun flavors with rich, melty cheese and fresh herbs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf French bread, halved lengthwise
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 lb crawfish tails (peeled and cooked)
  • 1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic until soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add crawfish tails, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Lower heat and stir in cream cheese until melted and creamy.
  5. Remove from heat and fold in cheddar, mozzarella, and green onions.
  6. Spoon the crawfish mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
  7. Place the stuffed bread on the baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
  8. Slice and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute shrimp or crab if crawfish isn’t available.
  • Great for game day, potlucks, or as a Mardi Gras treat.
  • Add hot sauce for extra heat if desired.
