Description

Cream Cheese Frosting is a rich, tangy, and creamy topping perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more. Its smooth texture and balanced sweetness make it a favorite for red velvet, carrot cake, and cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 23 cups powdered sugar (to taste and consistency)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition until desired sweetness and consistency are reached.
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, and beat until fully incorporated and fluffy.
  4. Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, or refrigerate until ready to use (bring to room temperature before spreading).

Notes

  • For a stiffer frosting, use more powdered sugar or chill before using.
  • Add a splash of lemon juice or zest for a brighter flavor.
  • Frosting can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
