Description
Cream Cheese Frosting is a rich, tangy, and creamy topping perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more. Its smooth texture and balanced sweetness make it a favorite for red velvet, carrot cake, and cinnamon rolls.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 2–3 cups powdered sugar (to taste and consistency)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
- Gradually add in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition until desired sweetness and consistency are reached.
- Mix in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, and beat until fully incorporated and fluffy.
- Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or cookies, or refrigerate until ready to use (bring to room temperature before spreading).
Notes
- For a stiffer frosting, use more powdered sugar or chill before using.
- Add a splash of lemon juice or zest for a brighter flavor.
- Frosting can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
