Description

Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs are a savory, slow-cooked appetizer or dinner featuring juicy meatballs simmered in a rich French onion sauce. With melty cheese on top, they’re perfect for game days, potlucks, or an easy comfort food meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs frozen fully-cooked meatballs
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can French onion soup
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add sliced onions and sugar, and cook, stirring often, until golden and caramelized (about 15–20 minutes).
  2. Transfer caramelized onions to a slow cooker. Add French onion soup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  3. Add frozen meatballs and stir to coat evenly.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours or high for 2–3 hours, until meatballs are heated through and flavors are blended.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top during the last 10–15 minutes of cooking, cover, and let melt.
  6. Garnish with parsley and serve hot as an appetizer or over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles for a meal.

Notes

  • Use homemade meatballs if preferred, but cook them before adding to the Crock Pot.
  • Swiss, Gruyère, or provolone cheese all work great for that classic French onion flavor.
  • Leftovers store well and reheat beautifully for up to 3 days.
