Description
Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs are a savory, slow-cooked appetizer or dinner featuring juicy meatballs simmered in a rich French onion sauce. With melty cheese on top, they’re perfect for game days, potlucks, or an easy comfort food meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs frozen fully-cooked meatballs
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 (10.5 oz) can French onion soup
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 1/2 cups shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese
- Optional: chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add sliced onions and sugar, and cook, stirring often, until golden and caramelized (about 15–20 minutes).
- Transfer caramelized onions to a slow cooker. Add French onion soup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and pepper. Stir to combine.
- Add frozen meatballs and stir to coat evenly.
- Cover and cook on low for 4–5 hours or high for 2–3 hours, until meatballs are heated through and flavors are blended.
- Sprinkle shredded cheese on top during the last 10–15 minutes of cooking, cover, and let melt.
- Garnish with parsley and serve hot as an appetizer or over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles for a meal.
Notes
- Use homemade meatballs if preferred, but cook them before adding to the Crock Pot.
- Swiss, Gruyère, or provolone cheese all work great for that classic French onion flavor.
- Leftovers store well and reheat beautifully for up to 3 days.
