- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 (4 oz) can diced green chiles, drained
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
- Stir in shredded cheeses and green chiles until evenly distributed.
- In another bowl, whisk together milk, sour cream, melted butter, and egg.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Transfer batter to the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Add a pinch of cayenne for extra heat.
- This bread is delicious toasted with a pat of butter or as the base for grilled sandwiches.
- Store leftovers wrapped tightly in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze slices individually for later use.
