Description

Green Chile Cheese Bread is a savory, cheesy loaf bursting with the bold flavor of roasted green chiles and gooey melted cheese. Perfect as a side dish, snack, or sandwich base, it’s comfort food with a spicy Southwestern twist.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 (4 oz) can diced green chiles, drained
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Stir in shredded cheeses and green chiles until evenly distributed.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together milk, sour cream, melted butter, and egg.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir just until combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Transfer batter to the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Add a pinch of cayenne for extra heat.
  • This bread is delicious toasted with a pat of butter or as the base for grilled sandwiches.
  • Store leftovers wrapped tightly in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze slices individually for later use.
