Description

Homestyle Chicken and Gravy is a classic comfort dish featuring tender, juicy chicken cooked in a rich, savory gravy. Perfect served over mashed potatoes or rice for a hearty meal.


Ingredients

  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Brown chicken thighs on both sides until golden, about 5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté onion and garlic until softened.
  5. Sprinkle flour over onions and stir to form a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Gradually whisk in chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the pan to deglaze.
  7. Add thyme, paprika, and butter. Stir until gravy thickens.
  8. Return chicken to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 20-25 minutes until chicken is cooked through.
  9. Serve chicken topped with gravy, alongside mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • Use bone-in chicken for more flavorful gravy.
  • For thicker gravy, simmer a bit longer or add more flour slurry.
  • Fresh herbs like rosemary or parsley can be added for extra aroma.
