Description

Honey Walnut Shrimp is a popular Chinese-American dish that features crispy fried shrimp tossed in a creamy honey sauce and topped with candied walnuts. It’s a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and crunchy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Salt, to taste
  • Green onions or sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring water and sugar to a boil. Add walnuts and cook for 2 minutes. Remove and place on parchment paper to cool and harden.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, honey, and condensed milk. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix shrimp with egg white and then toss with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Fry shrimp in batches until golden and crispy, about 2–3 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Toss the fried shrimp in the honey-mayo sauce until evenly coated.
  6. Top with candied walnuts and optional garnishes. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use raw shrimp for best texture; pre-cooked shrimp will become rubbery.
  • Let the candied walnuts cool completely for maximum crunch.
  • For a lighter version, bake or air-fry the shrimp instead of deep-frying.
