Description
A regional Michigan favorite, the Olive Burger features a juicy beef patty topped with a creamy green olive mayo sauce, creating a salty, tangy twist on the classic cheeseburger.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g ground beef (80/20 blend)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices of Swiss or American cheese
- 1 cup green olives, sliced
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon olive brine (from the olive jar)
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting buns)
- Lettuce and tomato slices (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Form ground beef into 4 equal patties and season with salt and pepper.
- Grill or pan-fry patties for about 4–5 minutes per side, or until desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, top with cheese slices to melt.
- Meanwhile, mix together mayonnaise, sliced green olives, olive brine, and Dijon mustard (if using) to make the olive sauce.
- Butter the buns lightly and toast on a skillet or grill until golden.
- Assemble burgers: place cooked patties on buns, top generously with olive sauce, and add lettuce and tomato if desired.
- Serve warm with fries or chips on the side.
Notes
- The olive sauce can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Try using Kalamata olives for a different flavor profile, but green olives are traditional.
- Pair with pickles or coleslaw for a full Michigan diner-style meal.
