Description
A juicy burger wrapped in caramelized onions instead of a bun, featuring a flavorful beef patty with melted cheese and classic toppings for a low-carb twist on the Flying Dutchman.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large onions, peeled and cut into thick rings
- 2 beef patties (about 150g each)
- 4 slices cheddar or American cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: pickles, mustard, ketchup, lettuce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Carefully separate onion rings and set aside the largest ones for wrapping.
- Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook beef patties for about 3–4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
- Place two cheese slices on each patty in the last minute of cooking to melt.
- In a separate pan, caramelize the onion rings by cooking them slowly over low heat with a pinch of salt until soft and golden, about 15 minutes.
- Once onion rings are soft and flexible, remove and let cool slightly.
- Wrap each cheese-topped patty with large onion rings, securing with toothpicks if needed.
- Add optional toppings as desired and serve immediately.
Notes
- Choose large, sweet onions for easier wrapping.
- Use toothpicks to hold onion rings in place if necessary.
- Serve with a side salad or low-carb veggies.
- Can substitute beef with turkey or plant-based patties.
