Description
A smooth, sweet, and lightly spiced spread made from ripe peaches, slowly cooked down to a buttery consistency. Perfect on toast, biscuits, pancakes, or stirred into yogurt.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 lbs ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and chopped
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/8 tsp salt
Instructions
- Add chopped peaches to a large pot or slow cooker.
- Stir in sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt.
- Cook over low heat (or on slow cooker low setting) for 6–8 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thick and reduced.
- Use an immersion blender or transfer to a blender to purée until smooth.
- Continue cooking uncovered for another 30–60 minutes if needed to thicken further.
- Let cool, then transfer to jars. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.
Notes
- No need to add pectin—peach butter thickens naturally as it cooks down.
- Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your peaches.
- Great for gifting or preserving in sterilized jars using water bath canning.
