Description
Shortcut Cherry Danish is a quick and easy version of the classic pastry, featuring a buttery, flaky crust with a sweet cherry filling. It’s perfect for a breakfast treat or dessert, and can be made in less than 30 minutes using store-bought ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought)
- 1/2 cup cherry pie filling
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface. Cut it into 4 equal squares.
- In a small bowl, mix together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Place a small spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square.
- Top the cream cheese with a spoonful of cherry pie filling.
- Fold the corners of the pastry squares towards the center, creating a pocket. Pinch the edges to seal.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the tops of the danishes.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving for extra sweetness.
Notes
- Feel free to use any fruit pie filling (such as blueberry or apple) instead of cherry for variety.
- For an extra touch, drizzle with a simple glaze made of powdered sugar and milk.
- These danishes are best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
