Description

Shortcut Cherry Danish is a quick and easy version of the classic pastry, featuring a buttery, flaky crust with a sweet cherry filling. It’s perfect for a breakfast treat or dessert, and can be made in less than 30 minutes using store-bought ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought)
  • 1/2 cup cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface. Cut it into 4 equal squares.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Place a small spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square.
  5. Top the cream cheese with a spoonful of cherry pie filling.
  6. Fold the corners of the pastry squares towards the center, creating a pocket. Pinch the edges to seal.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the tops of the danishes.
  8. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving for extra sweetness.

Notes

  • Feel free to use any fruit pie filling (such as blueberry or apple) instead of cherry for variety.
  • For an extra touch, drizzle with a simple glaze made of powdered sugar and milk.
  • These danishes are best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
